Volunteer at the Furman Farm

For students, community members, faculty, and staff

The Furman Farm is a ¼ acre organic practice farm with a comprehensive composting program.  The farm is largely student run under the supervision of Bruce Adams, Furman Farm’s Manager. The composting program handles all of the pre- and post-consumer waste from Furman’s dining hall and also processes much of the university’s landscaping waste.

Become a Shi Affiliate

For faculty and staff

Through the affiliates program launched in 2017, Furman faculty and staff serve as liaisons to gather best practices in community engagement and share strategies for integrating community-based work into courses and interdisciplinary research. The Shi Institute’s Applied Sustainability Research Team supports this work by matching faculty and community interests and facilitating collaboration opportunities.
